The Golden Rule for aesthetically pleasing websites published on 05.04.10 by J Corn
In order to get a balanced page when designing a website there are many standard rules.
One you should never forget is the golden rule or ratio. In order to get balanced columns you should divide the total width by 1.62 – the golden number. This will give an aesthetically pleasing page.
You can also use this for equally balanced boxes. If you have a box which is 400px wide, you divide it by 1.62 which gives you 247. You should therefore create the box 400px x 247px.
If you use this rule throughout your whole website you will be very pleased with the results.
